Emmett Claude McCormick, 76 of Altavista, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Thursday, September 8, 1938 in Campbell County, VA, a son of the late James McCormick and Mealie Jones McCormick. He was also preceded in death by his first wife , Virginia K. McCormick. He served faithfully as a Deacon and member of Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy . He was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Vesta Murphy Ryder McCormick of Altavista, son, Dwayne McCormick and his wife Theresa of Evington, step-daughter, Rhonda Ryder Baker and her husband Bobby R. of Charlottesville, VA, Three grandchildren, a brother Winston McCormick and his wife Joann of Hurt, 2 sisters Betty Short of Hurt and Louise Brumfield of Gretna. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Ken Lester, Rev. Wayne Murphy and Rev. David Bayse officiating. Interment will follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, September 22, 2014, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
