Obituary of William Thomas Mattox

William Thomas "Billy" Mattox, 91 of Lynch Station, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015 at Virginia Veterans Care Center, Salem. He was born on Saturday, July 26, 1924 in Bedford County, a son of the late W. E. Mattox and Ola Creasy Mattox. He was also preceded in death by wife, Virginia Lois Wood Mattox, step-mother, Estelle Mattox, his granddaughter, Debra Eubank, his grandparents, Achey & Norma Mattox. He worked at Lane Furniture for 21 years and retired from B & W Nuclear Tech. in 1986 after 18 years. He served in the ministry at Union Chapel Church, Lynch Station and First Southern Baptist Church, Hurt. He was also a U. S. Army veteran having served in World War II from 1941 - 45 and fought at the Battle of Anzio and earned the French Star. He is survived by his children, Sharon Eubank & husband, Bernard of Roanoke, Paul E. Mattox of Leander, TX, Kathy Mattox of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Timothy W. Cannon & wife, Lisa, Lynch Station, Christina R. Mattox of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Chasity Thompson & husband, Corey, Cotey Barnette & fiance, Candice, CheyAnne Degrasse. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at the graveside at Union Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Following the service, friends may visit with the family at the home of Tim & Lisa Cannon, 3372 Johnson Creek Road, Lynch Station, VA 24571. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:30 until 7:30 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
