Obituary of Sammy Adams Burnette

Sammy Elaine Adams Burnette, 77 of Bedford, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 10, 2015 surrounded by her children. She was born on March 24, 1938 in Bedford, VA, a daughter to the late Merit C. and Mary Adams. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Susan “Susie” vanWijk, and grandson, Cameron Kyle Burnette. Sammy was a retired elementary school teacher in Bedford County for more than 20 years. Her love for teaching was recognized by many and she will always be remembered for her many talents in the world of education.She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church where she played the piano. She had a love for education, music and her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Sammy was survived by her son, Malcolm “Mack” Burnette and wife, Tammy of Goodview; her son, Monty Burnette and wife, Jo Ellen of Evington; her grandson Matthew Burnette; granddaughter, Devon Burnette; her brother Wilber Adams and wife, Margaret; her brother DeWynn Adams and wife, Wanda; her brother Canie Adams and wife, Nancy; special friend Prestie Roach as well as other family and friends. The family would like to thank Centra Bedford Hospice and Noah’s Landing for their love, compassion and wonderful care. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at The Old Mill Farm, 3705 Chestnut Fork Rd., Bedford, VAwith Pastor Bryan Sheehan officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and continue with the celebration of Sammy’s life.
