Obituary of William Thomas Cheek

William Thomas Cheek, 87 of  Bedford, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was born on Friday, October 16, 1936 in Bedford County, a son of the late Joseph Garland Cheek and Judson Fuqua Cheek.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Cheek Witt, a brother, Ray Citty Cheek and his nephew, Tony Ray Karnes.  

William graduated from Huddleston High School in 1955 and worked at Rubatex for over 40 years. He played baseball in high school and played in the Men's Fastpitch Softball League in Bedford for many years later. He also served in the Army National Guard in Bedford. He was a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge and a member of Ephesus United Methodist Church (now Ephesus Church at Otter Hill).   

He is survived by his sister, Mae Cheek Karnes as well as many nieces & nephews.  

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ephesus Church at Otter Hill Cemetery, 2407 Otter Hill Road, Bedford, VA 24523. 

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Ephesus Church at Otter Hill fellowship hall and a graveside service will follow at 11 AM in the church cemetery with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating.  

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
